The Land Stewardship Initiative (LSI) began in early 2012 as a partnership between the Dubois SWCD and Vincennes University Jasper Campus (VUJC) to utilize their farmland as a learning/teaching project to demonstrate practices that improve soil health. The site presents multiple examples of best management practices to improve soil health and water quality. The LSI utilizes innovative techniques such as a grid tile systems, along with traditional conservation methods of no-till farming and planting cover crops to create a sustainable farming system on land typical to Dubois County. These practices can be replicated on the land across the county and beyond.
There is a story to be told at LSI, a story that wouldn’t exist without such a great team of volunteers and donors dedicated to championing conservation and changing minds. Thanks to all who have made the LSI project a success these past 10 years! As we look forward to the next 10 years we need your help. Join our volunteer force and become a community leader educating the both farmers and backyard gardeners on soil health and water conservation.
